114 first day of may in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and nineteen Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of Benja Pindle Ann Jenifer (seal) David Steuart At the foot of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: State of maryland anne arundel County to wit: On this twenty first day of may 1819 Personally appears anne Jenifer before the subscriber a Justice of the peace for the County aforesaid and acknowledges the aforegoing instrument of writing to be her act and Deed paid Taken by Benj.a Pindle d.d Ex.d 1¾ Recorded the 21st day of may 1819 This Indenture Witnesseth that I Rachel maria Harrison of anne arundel County and State of maryland for and in consideration of the sum of one Cent to me in hand paid at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have released from slavery manumitted and set free and release from slavery my negro Girl named Susan which said negro being under the age of forty five years of healthy condition sound in mind and body and capable by labour to procure to herself sufficient food and raiment with other requisite necessaries of life from and after the first day of January Eighteen hundred and forty (nine) |
