100 writing to be his act and deed according to the purport true intent and meaning thereof Ch.d Nich.s Worthington of Thomas Ex.d 2¼ Recorded the 18th day of January 1819 Know all men by these presents that I John Mercer of the County of Arundel and State of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of the sum of two hundred and twenty five dollars to me in hand paid before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof I hereby acknowledge by William D McKim of the City of Baltimore and State aforesaid have bargained sold and delivered and by these presents do bargain sell and deliver unto the said William D McKim his heirs and assigns a negro man named Abraham for the term of nine years to be computed and estimated from the twenty fourth day of October one thousand Eight hundred and fifteen and the said Negro Abraham from and after the expiration of the said term of nine years as aforesaid I have manumitted set free and for ever discharged from slavery and by these presents do manumit set free and for ever discharge from slavery In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this thirty first day of October one thousand Eight hundred and Eighteen Witness Jno Mercer (seal) John Johns on the back of the aforegoing deed was thus written to wit: Ann Arundel County scit On this thirty first day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and Eighteen (personally) |
