99 the within instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in such case made and provided. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand on this 15th day of January Anno Domini 1819 Horatio Ridout Ch.d Ex.d 3 Recorded the 16th day of January 1819 Whereas I the subscriber did on the first day of January 1819 purchase of Vachel Brown Samuel Brown J.r and Isaac Paul all of ann arundel county a certain mulatto slave named George aged about twenty five years I do hereby agree and engage to manumit and set free the said George in thirteen years from the said first day of January 1819 that is to say on the first of January Eighteen hundred & thirty two after which period the said George is to be absolutely free. Provided he shall not abscond or absent himself from my services without permission during the time above mentioned and in case he should so abscond or absent himself as aforesaid he shall then server me or my heirs or assigns a sufficient time in addition to remunerate the same and all expences that may be incurred by reason thereof.
