79 on the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit on this 12.th day of October in the year one thousand eight hundred & nine personally appears Elijah Gray party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland for the said county and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negroes within named to be henceforth manumitted and liberated agreeable to the true intent & meaning thereof and the act of assembly in such case made & provided Cha.s Waters Recorded 14 Octo 1809 Ex.d d d Maryland sct To all whom these presents shall come greeting. I Nicholas Swormstedt of anne arundel county county in the state aforesaid for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving do hereby free manumit and enfranchise the negro following to wit negro Cale or Caleb to be free the first day of January eighteen hundred & twenty two hereby acknowledging the said negro discharged at the time and year above mentioned from all claim of service and right of property whatsoever from me my heirs executors administrators or assigns. As witness my hand and seal this seventh day of november eighteen hundred and nine signed sealed & acknowledged in the presence of of Jn.o Brice Henry Smith Nicholas Swormstedt (seal) on the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit |
