78 acknowledged this instrument of writing to be her act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof Acknowledged before Charles Alex.r Warfield Recorded the 18 September 1809 Exd To all it may concern be it known that I Elijah Gray of ann arundel county and state of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit & set free and by these presents do hereby liberate manumit and set free the following negroes vizt Lucy aged about twenty seven years Abigail aged about twenty years, Nancy child of Lucy aged about one year, Charlotte child of Abigail aged about one year, the four above named negroes to be free & at fully liberty from the day of the date hereof my negro man named Jerry aged about twenty one years to be free at the expiration of ten years from this date, and I do hereby acknowledge and declare the said negroes agreeable to the above stipulated terms of manumission to be free from all claim of service after the expiration of the said term specifyed therein both from me my heirs executors or administrators forever In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 12.th day of october anno Domi 1809 signed sealed & delivered in presence of Vachel Robinson Elijah Gray (seal) Cha.s Waters |
