76 Harrison I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my heirs executors or administrators. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the fourth day of September in the year of eighteen hundred and nine signed sealed & delivered her in the presence of Rachel + Rowles (seal) Chas Waters Charles Stewart mark on the back of the aforegoing was endorsed to wit Received on the day of the date above mentioned the sum of ten dollars it being the full consideration money above mentioned Test Chas Waters her Rachel + Rowles mark State of Maryland Anne Arundel county to wit on this fourth day of September 1809 personally appeared Rachel Rowles party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland for the said county and acknowledged the same to be her act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negro woman within named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to her or to any claiming under her and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provide acknowledged before Cha.s Waters Recorded 14 Sep 1809 Know all men by these presents that I Sarah Meriweather believing that natural freedom is the right of all men given by almighty God do bind myself |
