74 On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed Viz.t Ann Arundel County to wit on the 25.th day of July 1809 appeared John Cord party to the above Instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice in and for the County aforesaid and Acknowledged the same to be his Act and Deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the Negro man Sam therein mentioned to be liberated from Slavery and set free to all intents and purposes forever Acknowledged before Recorded 16 Aug.t 1809 Walter Brookes To all whom it may concern be it known that William M Chaney of ann arundel county and state of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of five shillings current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro boy named Calbert being eleven years old the said negro boy Charles Colbert to be free on the eleventh day of September in the year of one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine being twenty years from the date hereof. I do declare to be free manumitted and from all manner of service to me my (Exs) |
