72 on the back of the aforegoing Deed was thus endorsed to wit Rec.d the day and date above mentioned the sum of five shillings being the full consideration money above mentioned John Chew Anne arundel county to wit on the 9.th day of June 1809 appeared John Chew before the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for the county aforesaid and acknowledged the above instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in such case made and provided Gideon White Recorded June 9 1809 Exd d d State of Maryland Baltimore county to wit To all whom it may concern be it known that I Samuel Thomas of ann arundel county divers good causes me thereto moving have liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do libertate manumit and set free a dark mulatto man named Jacob aged about forty four years and a black man named Juba aged about thirty five years my slaves from and after the day of the date hereof and I do release and discharge the said Jacob and Juba from all service or servitude to me my executors or administrators from this day forth and forever. In witness whereof I hereto set my hand and seal this seventh day of June in the year of our Lord one |
