    To all whom it may concern be it known that
I John Tho.s Shaaff of the city of annapolis and
State of Maryland for divers good causes and
considerations me thereunto moving as also in
further consideration of one dollar current money
to me in hand paid have released from slavery
liberated manumitted and set free and by these
presents do hereby release from slavery liberate
and set free and manumit my negro boy John
(purchased from the late Walter Dulany Esq) about
the age of fourteen years and him the said negro
boy named John I do declare to be henceforth
free manumitted and discharged from all
manner of service or servitude to me my executors
or administrators forever.   In testimony whereof
I have hereunto set my hand and affixed
my seal this tenth day of february in the
year of our lord one thousand eight hundred
and nine
Signed sealed & delivered

    Gideon White   John M. Sewell

on the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit
    Received on the day of the date within mentioned
the sum of one dollar current money it being the
full consideration money within mentioned

    Anne arundel county Ss.t   Be it remembered
that on this 10.th day of february 1809 personally
appears John T. Shaaf party to the within instrument
of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of
