Sewell on the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit Anne Arundel county Sc.t Be it remembered that on the seventh day of December 1808 the above named John Francis Mercer personally appeared before me the undersigned a Justice of the peace for anne arundel county and acknowledged the aforegoing instrument of writing to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned acknowledged before Gideon White Recorded 14.th De.r 1808 me Maryland anne arundel county to wit Be it known that I John L Tilghman of Queen Anns county in and for divers good considerations do hereby liberate manumit and discharge from slavery from and after the first day of January which will be in the year of our lord eighteen hundred and twenty eight a certain negro boy named Richard Murray aged about four years son of a woman named Milly Murray and the said Richard I do declare to be thenceforth that is to say on the day above mentioned freed manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators and |
