41 me the subscriber a justice of the peace of the state of maryland for the said county and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negro man within named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided acknowledged before Joseph Sands Recorded the 25 July 1808 Whereas I Philip Watts did on or about the nineteenth day of october one thousand seven hundred and ninety two by a certain writing under my hand and seal and duly recorded amongst the land records of anne arundel county court but executed only in the presence of one witness did liberate manumit and set free or intended so to do Abigal Letty Susanna Samuel Rebecca William Robin Frances and Dinah and by the said writing freedom was to take place at a future day. And whereas doubts have arisen or may arise whether the said instrument of writing has been executed agreeably to law so as to carry into effect the intentions of the maker thereof and for the purpose of removing doubts and aiding any defects which may exist therein. Be it known that I Philip Watts for and in consideration of the premises aforesaid have released from slavery liberated manumitted set free and confirmed in their said freedom and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit set free and confirm in their freedom according to and upon the terms set forth and contained in the said instrument of writing herein before mentioned and referred to the said several and respective persons above mentioned that is to say Abigal |
