354 in such cases made and provided Acknowledged before Ch.d Henry Hammond 2½ Recorded the 18.th day of June 1816 To all whom it may concern Be it Known that I John Merriken of Ann Arundell County in the State of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving do release from slavery manumitt liberate and set free and by these presence do hereby release from slavery liberate manumitt and set free my negro girl Harriott after the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and thirty two being then of the age of thirty years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelyhood and maintainance, and her the said negro girl Harriott I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged at the time above specified from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever. In Testamony whereoff I hereunto sett my hand and seal this 21 day of May 1816 Test John Meriken (seal) Henry H Steuart Henry Hammond On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit Ann Arundel County to wit: On this 21 day of May 1816 personally appeared John Merriken party to the within instrument of wrighting before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of |
