353 the State of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving do release from slavery manumitt liberate and set free and by these presence do hereby releace from slavery liberate manumitt and set free my negro boy Bob after the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and thirty five being then of the age of thirty five years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelyhood and maintainance and him the said negro boy Bob I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged at the time above specified from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever. in Testamony whareoff I hereunto set my hand and seal this 21 day of May 1816 Test Henry H. Steuart John Merriken (seal) Henry Hammond On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit: Ann Arundell County to wit: On this 21 day of May 1816 personally appeared John Merriken party to the within instrument of wrighting before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland and said County and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed for the purpose therein mentioned and the said negro boy Bob within named at the time above specified to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all service to him or any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of Assembly in |
