35 mentioned and contained I bind myself my heirs executors and administrators firmly by these presents sealed with my seal and signed and dated this twenty fourth day of march one thousand eight hundred and eight Witness Charles Alex.r Warfield Jno Chew Thomas Samuel Thomas (seal) On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit Anne arundel county to wit on the twenty fourth of march one thousand eight hundred and eight came the within named Samuel Thomas before the Subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for the county aforesaid and acknowledged the within instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof acknowledged before Charles Alex Warfield Recorded 26 may 1808 State of maryland anne arundel county to wit Whereas my wife Ann M. Laughlin formerly ann M. Watkins before our intermarriage had one negro girl named Milly devised to her by the will of her deceased father Joseph Watkins of the county aforesaid which negro girl named Milly came to her possession in virtue of the will of her father aforesaid and whereas before my intermarriage with the said Ann M. Watkins she did by her deed of emancipation acknowledged and recorded among the records of anne arundel county court emancipate liberate and forever discharge the said negro girl named Milly and her increase from all servitude to her the said Ann M. Watkins and all persons claiming under her and whereas some doubts have arisen as to the validity of the said deed of emancipation which was executed and recorded some time in the year seventeen hundred and ninety one among the records of ann arundel |
