344 named Charles Mahoney personally appeared before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for the above County and acknowledged the above instrument of writing to be his act and deed. Acknowledged before and certified by James Hunter I this day received of Charles Mahoney his note with M.r John Watkins as security for a negroe girl named Ann which the said Mahoney bought of me on the first day of January last Francis M Hall paid Dec.r 2d 1805 2½ Recorded the 7th day of May 1816 To all whom it may concern Be it Known that I Benjamin Gaither of Anne Arundel County in the State of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of six hundred dollars current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro man named William after serving twelve years from the thirteenth day of May eighteen hundred and fourteen being now about the age of thirty three years an able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negro man named William I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all servitude |
