343 and discharged (at the time mentioned) from all servitude or service to her or to any person or persons claiming under her and to be free and manumitted according to the act of Assembly in such cases made and provided acknowledged before chd Benj.a Pindle 2¾ Recorded the 1st day of May 1816 Whereas Kind Providence has enabled me to purchase my daughter named Ann who was born in a State of Slavery and I being willing in consideration of the natural love and affection that have for her to free from obligations of a slave. Now these presents Witnesseth that I Charles Mahoney of Ann Arundel County for and in consideration of natural love and affection have set free and manumitted and by these presents do set free and manumit my said daughter Ann now about the age of sixteen years and discharge her from all the obligations of a slave retaining only the right of a Father to regulate or controul the actions and conduct of his Child. Witness my hand and seal this seventh day of may in the year eighteen hundred and sixteen Signed Sealed and delivered his in the presence of us Charles X Mahoney (seal) James Hunter John B Nichols mark On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit: Ann Arundel County to wit: On the seventh day of May eighteen hundred and sixteen the above named |
