To all whom it may concern be it known that I Samuel Judson
Coolidge of anne arundel county in the state of maryland for
divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving
as also in further consideration of five pounds current money
to me in hand paid do release from slavery liberate manumit
and set free five years after the date of these presents my black
woman named Fanny Matthews being of the age of five
years and them the said Fanny and Minette after the
expiration of the said five years to commence from
the date hereof I do declare to be free manumitted
and discharged from all manner of servitude or service
to me my executors or administrators forever.   In
Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and
affixed my seal this fourteenth day of may in the
year eighteen hundred and eight
Signed sealed & delivered        Samuel J Coolidge   (seal)
in the presence of us
William M. Bowie                     on the back of the
Gustavus A Clagett                    aforegoing was thus endorsed
    Joseph Sands                        to wit

Received on the day of the date within mentioned the
sum of five pounds current money it being the full consideration
money within mentioned                  Saml J. Coolidge (SC)

Anne arundel county to wit  Be it remembered that
on this the sixteenth day of may 1808 personally appears
Samuel Judson Coolidge party to the within instrument
of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace
of the State of maryland for the county and acknowledges
the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within
mentioned and the woman and child within named
to be manumitted and discharged from all servitude
after the expiration of five years according to the act
of assembly in such cases made & provided
