311 this 16th day of June 1815 Signed Sealed and delivered J. T. Canley (seal) in presence of attorney for Ann Sprigg Alexander H. Boteler paid Ex.d d.d 2¼ Recorded the 8th day of July 1815 Whereas I John Chew Thomas of Ann Arundel County and State of Maryland on the twelfth day of February eighteen hundred and twelve did by deed of manumission executed and recorded in the Clerks office of the aforesaid County according to law grant freedom to sundry female slaves therein mentioned at the several and respective periods of time therein specified and did further declare the condition of the children who should be born of the said females before the time fixed for their emancipation to be as follows the males to be free as they should arrive to the age of twenty one years and the females as they should arrive to the age of eighteen years as by the said deed of manumission will fully appears. Now be it Known that I do hereby set free manumit and grant freedom to all and every female that has been or may be born of any slave manumitted by me before the time specified for the freedom of the mother in the following manner that is to say I grant freedom to each and every such female when she may arrive to the age limited by law or custom of white female children to be free who are bound to service which age is at present the age of sixteen years.
