293 named Handy being of the age of forty three years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negro man named Handy I declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 27.th day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifteen Signed Sealed and delivered W Alexander (seal) in the presence of R Welch of Ben William Woodward On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit: Anne Arundel County to wit: On the 27.th day of March 1815 personally appears William Alexander party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland for the County aforesaid and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negro man within named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of Assembly in such cases made and provided Acknowledged before paid R Welch of Ben 2½ Recorded the 28.th day of March 1815 |
