Anne Arundel County to wit:  On this twelfth day
of April personally appears Henry Howard party
to the within instrument of writting before me
the subscriber a justice of the peace of the State
of Maryland for the said County and acknowledges
the same to be his act and deed for the
purposes within mentioned and the coloured
woman and her son Joseph within named to
be henceforth manumitted and discharged from
all services to him or to any claiming under
him and to be free and manumitted according
to the act of Assembly in such cases made and
provided

       To all whome it may concern  Be it KNown
that I George Watts of Ann Arundle County in
the State of Maryland for divers good causes
and considerations me thereunto moving as also
in further consideration of sixty pound current
money to me in hand paid have released from
slavery liberated manumitted and set free and
by these presents do hereby release from slavery
liberate manumit and set free my negro man
named Benjamin Lugh being of the age   twenty
five years and able to work and gain a
sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him
