184 aforesaid and acknowledged the above instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in such cases made and provided Chd Gideon White 174 Recorded the 5th day of June 1812 Know all persons by these presents that whereas I James Angel Howard of Anne Arundel County and State of Maryland did on the fifth day of this Instant purchase of a certain Charles Alexander Barnes a mulatto boy called Charles late the slave and property of James barnes of Adam of County aforesaid which said boy Charles was on the twentieth day of January last past sold at public sale as the property of the aforesaid James Barnes of Adam by the Sheriff of the County aforesaid to satisfy a debt due Samuel Gaither at which time the aforesaid Charles Alexander Barnes became the purchaser of said Mulatto boy Charles wherefore for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving and being desirous and determined that the said Mulatto boy Charles now called Cha.s Angel Howard shall no longer remain as a slave I do by these presents liberate manumit and set him free from slavery from the date of these presents to all intents and purposes Provided nevertheless the said boy is to remain under |
