176 born to me by my said wife since I purchased her as aforesaid aged five years of age all of them now able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and them the said mary James ^and^ Anna I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors and administrators forever. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this fourteenth day of April in the year eighteen hundred and twelve Signed Sealed and his delivered in the presence George + Johnson (seal) of Thomas Ham.n Bowie mark Edw Harwood On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit: Anne Arundel County sc. Be it remembered that on this fourteenth day of April in the year eighteen hundred and twelve personally appears the within named George Johnson party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a justice of the peace for the county aforesaid and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned and the several negroes in it named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such case made and provided Ex.d d.d acknowledged before and certified by paid Joseph Sands 3¾ Recorded the 14.th day of April 1812 |
