175 Ann Arundel County to wit: On this sixth day of April eighteen hundred and twelve personally appears Zachariah Duvall party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a justice of the peace of the State of Maryland for the said County and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negro women and boy within named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided Ch.d Acknowledged before 3½ Gideon White Recorded the 6.th day of April 1812 State of Maryland ss To all whom it may concern Be it Known that I George Johnson of Anne Arundel County a free person of color for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of the sum of five shillings current money have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby liberate manumit and set free my negroe woman named Mary who is my wife and her son James both of them being purchased by me heretofore on the fourth day of of December in the year eighteen hundred and one of Sarah gray as by reference to a bill of sale from her to me recorded in Liber N H N.o 11 folio 369 one of Anne Arundel County land record books will appear: the woman now being aged thirty five years and the son aged ten years of age and also my negroe girl named Anna whom I have had born |
