173 of the City of Annapolis in the State of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of eleven pence current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery manumit and set free negroe Tom Haywood son of Sam Haywood by his ^first^ wife Phillis being of the age of thirteen years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negroe boy named Tom Haywood I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this fourteenth day of march in the year eighteen hundred and twelve Signed Sealed & delivered in her the presence of us Bell + Haywood (seal) Gideon White Jno Mallonee mark On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit: Ann Arundell County ss.t On the 14 day of March 1812 appeared Bell Haywood before the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for the County aforesaid and acknowledged the within instrument of writing to be her act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned Ch.d Gideon White Ex.d 2¼ Recorded the 14 day of March 1812 To all whom it may concern Be it Known that I Zachariah Duvall of Ann Arundel County in |
