101 To all whom it may concern be it known that I John Chew of ann arundel county and state of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of twenty shillings current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and sett free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery manumitt and sett free my negro men Allen and Philip allen aged about thirty eight and Philip aged about twenty six years the said two negro men to be free on the first day of april in the year of our lord one thousand eight hundred and seventeen and I do hereby declare the said two negro men Allen and Philip to be free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my heirs executors or administrators ^forever^ after the first day of april one thousand eight hundred and seventeen In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and affixed my seal this twenty ninth day of march one thousand eight hundred and ten signed sealed & delivered John Chew (seal) in presence of Gideon White Jno Mallonee on the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit, Rec.d this 29.th march 1810 the sum of twenty shillings being the full consideration for the above mentioned John Chew |
