90 and I the said William Hammond being willing and desirous to grant to the said Slaves their freedom Do by these presents for divers good causes and considerations manumit and set free the said negro Slaves in the manner hereafter mentioned that is to say the freedom of the said negro Jenny to commence and take effect when she shall attain the age of Thirty one years and the freedom of the children which the said Jenny may have and their posterity to commence and take effect when they shall respectively attain the age of Thirty one years and the freedom of all the other above mentioned Slaves to commence and take effect when they shall respectively attain the age of Thirty one years and I the said William Hammond for myself my heirs executors and administrators do by these presents grant to the aforesaid negroes their freedom to take place and commence at the time herein set forth and expressed In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this Twentyeth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and one Signed Sealed and delivered In presence of Wm Hammond (seal) James Mackubin March M Duvall On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed Viz.t Ann Arundel County to wit; on the twentyeth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and one personally appeared before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for the said County of Anne Arundel the within mentioned William Hammond and acknowledged the within deed of Manumission to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof 3½ Recorded 20 October 1801 James Mackubin |
