of the sum of five shillings current money to me in hand paid have released from Slavery, liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do release from Slavery, manumit, liberate and set free my negro girl named Lucy Scott, being of the age of Fourteen years or thereabouts and whom I purchased of and from a certain Joseph S. Belt of Montgomery County in the state aforesaid and her the said negro Girl named Lucy Scott I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 21.d day of October one Thousand eight hundred and one Signed Sealed and delivered In the presence of Leonard Scott (seal) James Mackubin Robert Welch Jun.r On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed Viz.t Received on the day of the date within mentioned the sum of five shillings current money it being the full consideration within mentioned witness Leonard Scott James Mackubin Anne Arundel County sc.t Be it remembered that on this day of October in the year one thousand eight hundred and one personally appeared Leonard Scott party to the within instrument of writing before the subscribers two of the Justices of the peace for the County aforesaid and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negro girl within named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided acknowledged before Recorded 22.nd October 1801 James Mackubin |
