313 service to him or any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided acknowledged before Recorded 27.th may 1807 Richard Merriken Know all men by these presents that I John Chew Thomas of ann arundel county and state of maryland do hereby manumit and set free my mulatto woman slave named Bett aged about thirty years wife of negro James late the property of Major Thomas Snowden deceased I do also hereby manumit and set free her four children named and aged as follows to wit. William aged about eight years James aged about 5 years Sarah aged about three years and Thomas aged about one year. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 30.th day of march 1807. Witness James H. Marriott Philip Snowden Jn.o Chew Thomas (seal) on the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to A. A. County to wit on this 29th of march 1807 personally appears John C. Thomas party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace for the said county and acknowledged the same |
