312 To all whom it may concern Be it known that I John Merriken of ann arundel county in the state of maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving do release from slavery manumit liberate and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro man Samuel after the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and twenty two being of the age of thirty eight years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negro man Samuel I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged at the time above specified from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever. In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this eighteenth day of may 1807 Richard Merriken John Merriken (seal) Henry Duvall on the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed s.t Anne arundel County to wit on this 18.th day of may 1807 personally appeared John Merriken party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of maryland and the said county and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned and the said negro man within named at the time above specified to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all |
