311. and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro man Charles after the year of our Lord 1823 being of the age of thirty five years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and him the said negro man CHarles I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged at the time above specified from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever. In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this eighteenth day of may 1807 Witness Richard Merriken Joseph Boone Henry Duvall on the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit on this 18.d day of may 1807 personally appeared Henry Duvall party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland and the said county and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned and the negro man within named at the time above specified to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and manumitted according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided acknowledged before Recorded 27.th may 1807 Richard Merriken |
