31 On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed to wit Be it known that on the ninth day of October one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight before me John Randall one of the Justices of the peace for Ann Arundel County came the above named Bryan Williams and acknowledged this Instrument of writing to be his Act & Deed for the use and purposes therein mentioned 2½ John Randall Recorded Oct.o 9.th 1798
free and Discharge from my service and the service of all persons claiming under me a negro Man slave named Charles aged thirty six years to be free on the fifteenth day of October which will be in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and I do hereby for myself and all persons claiming under me release and Discharge the said negro Man Charles from all Claim of Slavery after the time above specified In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this first day of november one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight Signed Sealed & Delivered John C.
