289. appeared before me the Subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for the County aforesaid and acknowledged the within instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the form and effect and true meaning of the same And the Negro man therein named to be manumitted & liberated and set free to all intents and purposes whatsoever Taken Before Gideon White Recorded the 8th January 1807 Examd d.d To all whom it doth or may Concern Be it known that I Jockey Wheeler a free Negro man formerly the property of Henry Hall Dorsey now resideth in Anne Arundel County in the State of Maryland for divers good Causes and in Consideration me thereunto moving as also in further Consideration of the Sum of one dollar to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and Set free and by these presents do release from Slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do release from Slavery liberate manumit and set free my Daughter Esther Wheeler aged about fifteen years being able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance which said Esther formerly belonged to Aquila Pumphrey of Anne Arundel County aforesaid and was (by) |
