263 age of fifteen years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and her the said negro Girl named Barbaara I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all all manner of Servitude or service to me my Executors administrators or assigns In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 31st day of January 1806 Signed Sealed & delivered In the presence of Gideon White Edward Holland (seal) Elisha White Geo Jennings On the back of the aforegoing was thus Endorsed To wit The above manumission is on Condition that the above named negro Girl Barbara is to stay with Ignatius Butler for six months if he so long lives but if he die before she is to be immediately free.
