hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty
sixth day of August one thousand Eight
hundred and Two

On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed Viz
Anne Arundel County sc.t  Be it remembered
that on this twenty sixth day of August Eighteen
hundred and two personally appeared
John Gwinn party to the above instrument of
writing before me the subscriber a Justice
of the peace of the state of maryland for the
County aforesaid and acknowledged the
same to be his act and deed for the purposes
above mentioned and the mulatto Lad above
named to be after the time therein mentioned
manumitted and discharged from all services
to him or to any claiming under him
                                  acknowledged before

 I Thomas Norris of the County of Ann
Arundell in the State of Maryland do
hereby set free from bondage my
negro man named James aged about fifty six
years and do for myself my heirs executors and
administrators release unto the said James all
my right and all claim whatsoever as to his person
or to any estate he may acquire hereby declaring
the said James Absolutely free without any
interruption from me or any person claiming
under me; and in pursuance of a Law in
