122 On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed Viz.t Anne Arundel County sc.t on the 17.th day of June 1802 John Pitts personally appeared before me the subscriber ^one of the Justices of the peace in the County aforesaid^ and acknowledged the above instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof Ex d d Recorded 18th June 1802 James Mackubin Ex.d Anne Arundel County sc.t To all whom it may concern be it known that I John Gwinn of the City of Annapolis in the state of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further consideration of five shillings current money to me in hand paid the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have released from Slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free from and after the fifteenth day of march Eighteen hundred and six my mulatto Lad now in Baltimore named Matthias being of about the age of Twenty years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance (which said negro lad I sold to M.r William Evans on the fifteenth day of march last for the Term of four years) and him the said mulatto Lad named Matthias I do hereby declare to be free manumitted and discharged after the fifteenth day of march Eighteen hundred and six from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever In Testimony whereof I have hereunto |
