107 and set free and by these presents do hereby release from Slavery, Liberate manumit and set free my negro woman named Betty (who calls herself Betty Stevens) being of the age of forty two years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and her the said negro woman named Betty I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my executors or administrators forever In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this third day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and two Signed Sealed and delivered John Brewer (seal) In the presence of us Will.m Brewer Henry Thompson On the back of the aforegoing was thus endorsed Viz.t Received on the day of the date within mentioned the sum of thirty pounds current money it being the full consideration money within mentioned Witness James Mackubin John Brewer (seal) Ann Arundel County City of Annapolis sc.t Be it remembered that on this third day of February eighteen hundred and two personally appears John Brewer party to the within instrument of writing before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of The State of Maryland for the said County and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the negro woman within named to be henceforth manumitted and discharged from all services to him or to any claiming under him and to be free and |
