Thomas T. Simmons Reg.^r of Wills for A. A. County

The State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to Wit:
    I hereby Certify to all whom it doth or may concern that on an examination
of the Records and Papers in the Office of the Register of Wills for
Anne Arundel County it appears that the last Will and Testament of Richard
Wells late of the County aforesaid, deceased, bearing date the twenty
third day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and twenty Six was proved and recorded in the said Office on the nineteenth
day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and twenty nine in Liber T. T. S. N.^o 1 folio 44 and that the said Richard
Wells by his said will among other things did devise and direct
that after his death, Polly, her daughter and two children are to be free
        And I do further Certify That it hath been proved by such
Testimony as is satisfactory to me that the bearer hereof negro Nelly
(the daughter of Polly) whose height is about five feet three and three
quarter inches; whose age is about twenty four years; whose complexion
is dark; and who as appears by the said Will and Testimony
became free sometime in the month of May Eighteen hundred and
twenty nine is the identical person who was manumitted or freed
as aforesaid and that the said negro Nelly was raised in Anne Arundel
County and has a large scar on the breast and also on the right
arm near the elbow
