At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit

             State of Maryland A. A. Ct to wit

    On this 10.th of March 1846 before me the Subscriber one of the
justices of the peace in and for the State and County aforesaid
appeared William H Wood and acknowledged the within Instrument
of writing to be his act and deed and the within Negro Boy Saml to
be the right and property of the said Dr Hammond Stewart the
condition herein declared and thereby understood

Bill of sale between John G. Nichols
and William Prout dated the seventh
day of April eighteen hundred and forty six
Know all men by
these presents that
I William Prout
for and in consideration
of the trust and confidence which I have in John G. Nichols of the
said County and state and of the sum of ten dollars current money
to me in hand paid by the said John G. Nichols have granted bargained
and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the
said John G. Nichols a negro Girl named Mary Balson who was
conveyed to me by a certain Thomas J. Stockett by deed bearing
date the fourteenth day of January eighteen hundred and thirty
six and recorded in Liber W. S. G. No 1 folios 443 &s one of the
personal deed Record Books of Anne Arundel County
reference being thereto had will more fully appear which
said negro was to serve the said Prout under said deed until
she attained the age of thirty five years.  To Have and To Hold the
said Negro to the said John G. Nichols his executors administrators
and assigns.  Provided Nevertheless that whenever the said
William Prout shall tender to the said John G. Nichols the
sum of ten dollars the consideration above expressed to be paid
to him by the said John G Nichols that in case these presents
shall cease and be utterly void
