At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit
State of Maryland                     Be it remembered that on this seventeenth
Anne Arundel County to wit      day of February in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and forty six before me one of the Justices of
the peace of the County and state aforesaid personally appeared John T.
Taylor he being personally known to me to be the identical person
who is named and described as and professing to be the party to the
aforegoing instrument of writing and does acknowledge the same
to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof
and the Act of Assembly in such case made and provided

Bill of sale from Charles E. Bevan to
Edwin W. Duvall dated the twenty
third day of February 1846
Know all men by these presents
that I Charles E. Bevan for
and in consideration of the sum
of six hundred dollars current money to me in hand paid by Edwin W.
Duvall both of Anne Arundel County in the State of Maryland at and
before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged have granted bargained & sold and by these presents do grant
bargain and sell unto the said Edwin W Duvall his executors & administrators
my negro man named Robert Alton aged about twenty seven
years of rather a light complexion which said negro so described as aforesaid
I do warrant to be of sound mind and sound and healthy in
body and a slave for life.  I do also warrant and defend the said
negro so described as aforesaid to the said Edwin W Duvall his executors
administrators and assigns against me my executors and administrators
and against every other person or persons whomsoever
To Have and To Hold the said negro man so described as aforesaid to the
said Edwin W. Duvall his Executors administrators and assigns
forever.  In Testimony whereof we have hereto set our hands and
affixed our seals this twenty third day of February eighteen hundred
