Arundel County aforesaid deceased do grant bargain and sell unto the said
Thomas J Mezick his Executors administrators and assigns one negro man
named Jim aged about nineteen years of dark complexion and belonging
to the Estate of said Joseph M Tate and sold by me as administrator
for the purpose of closing the estate aforesaid.  To Have and To Hold the
said negro Jim above bargained and sold or mentioned and intended so to
be to the said Tho.s J Mezick his executors administrators and assigns for a
term of ten years from the first day of January eighteen hundred
and forty six to the first day of January in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred
fifty seven.  And I the said Zachariah Merriken for myself my heirs executors
and administrators the said negro Jim unto the said Thos H Mezick his
executors administrators and assigns against me the said Zachariah Merriken
my executors and administrators and against all and every other person
or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by
these presents which said negro Jim I the said Zachariah Merriken
have put the said Thos J Mezick in full possession by delivering to him
the said Thos J. Mezick the aforesaid negro Jim to serve the aforesaid
term of ten years and then to return unto the provision of the legal
representatives of the aforesaid Joseph M Tate late of Anne Arundel County
deceased as part and parcel of his estate at the sealing and delivering these
presents in the name of the whole premises hereby bargained and sold
or mentioned and intended to be so unto him the said Thos J Mezick
as aforesaid.  In Testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name
this seventeenth day of February in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred
and forty six

    At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit

            State of Maryland Anne Arundel County

Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this seventeenth
day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
forty six before the subscribers a justice of the peace of the State of
Maryland in and for the County aforesaid personally appears Zachariah
Merriken he being known to me to be the person who is named and
described as and professing to be the party grantor to the aforegoing
indenture and doth acknowledge the said indenture or instrument
of writing to be his act and deed.  In Testimony whereof I hereunto
subscribe my name on the day and year aforesaid
