the date thereof.  And whereas the said Gassaway Watkins after
the execution of the said single Bill and the delivery thereof
to the said Brice T. B. Worthington intermarried with the said
Mary A. Holliday by reason whereof the said Gassaway has become
bound and indebted unto the said Brice T. B. Worthington for the
amount mentioned in the said single Bill and the interest thereon
until paid according to the terms of the said single bill.  Now this
Indenture witnesseth that the said Gassaway Watkins for the
purpose of securing the payment of the sum of money due by the
single bill aforesaid and in consideration of five dollars in hand paid
by the said Brice T. B. Worthington the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents
doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Brice T. B. Worthington
his Executors administrators and assigns a negro man Harry negro man
Jack negro Girl Matilda now in possession of said N. Gassaway Watkins
To Have and To Hold all and singular the said negro slaves unto the
said Brice T. B. Worthington his executors administrators and assigns
to his and their own use and behoof.  Provided always at it is declared
to be the true intent and meaning of these presents that if the
said Gassaway Watkins do and shall well and truly pay or cause
to be paid unto the said Brice T. B. Worthington his Executors and
administrators or assigns the full sum of money mentioned in the
said single bill with the interest thereon on or before the first day
of January in the year eighteen hundred and forty six then and in
such case these presents and every matter and thing herein contained
shall cease determine and be utterly void to all intents and purposes
anything herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding  And the
said Gassaway Watkins his Executors and administrators all
and singular the said negro slaves by these presents granted
bargained and sold unto the said Brice T. B. Worthington his Executors
administrators and assigns against him the said Gassaway Watkins
his Executors and administrators and against all and every other
person whatsoever shall and will warrant and defend by these
presents.  And the said Brice T. B. Worthington his Executors and administrators
hereby covenants and agree to and with the said Gassaway
Watkins his executors and administrators that they the said
the said Brice or his Executors & administrators will deliver
reconvey and release from the operation of these presents the above
described property as hereby granted bargained and sold when the sum
of money in the said single bill mentioned with the interest thereon
shall be paid by the said Gassaway Watkins or his executors and
