Bill of sale with a manumission
claim from Charles Waters of a negro
slave named Emerline to Vachel
Johnson dated this first day of August
eighteen hundred and forty five
Know all men by these
presents that I Charles
Waters of Baltimore County
in the State of Maryland
for and in consideration of
the sum of two dollars to me
in hand paid by Vachel Johnson Coloured man of Anne Arundel
County and State aforesaid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged
have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do
grant bargain and sell unto the said Vachel Johnson his Executors
administrators and assigns my negro slave named Emiline aged
about four years.  To Have and to Hold the said female Slave
unto the said Vachel Johnson his executors administrators
and assigns from the day of the date of these presents untill the
first day of August in the year eighteen hundred and sixty nine
and not longer and be it further known that from and after
the said last mentioned day and to date and take effect from
and upon the same and not before I hereby for divers good and sufficient
causes and considerations me thereto moving manumit
release from slavery and servitude liberate and set free the said
female slave named Emeline and her the said female slave
I declare to be thenceforth freed manumitted and discharged
from all manner of service or servitude to me my executors
administrators and assigns.  In Witness whereof I hereunto
set my hand and seal this first day of August eighteen
hundred and forty five

in the presence of

2.Do H. M. McKeown

At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit

State of Maryland Baltimore County Sct.

Be it remembered that on this first day of August eighteen
hundred and forty five before the Subscriber a Justice of the peace
for said state in and for said County duly commissioned and sworn
personally appeared Charles Waters he being known unto me
to be the person who is named and described as and professing
to be a party to the foregoing Indenture and acknowledged the same
to be his act and deed.   In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe
my name on the day and year above written            Eli Duvall
Recorded the 9.th day of August 1845
