Ann Maxfield now about seventeen years old a bona fide
slave for life said negro is sold with the distinct and
explicit understanding and agreement that she is
to be and remain in the State of Maryland and that
she is neither to be taken sent carried nor in any way
whatever by any person or persons removed out of the said
State under the penalty of five hundred dollars to be
paid to the said Tench Tiglhaman his heirs or assigns on
demand should the said negro woman Mary Ann
Maxfield ever be permanently removed without the
limits of said State of Maryland.  To Have and To Hold
the said described negro woman Mary Ann Maxfield
to the said Dorsey Stewart his executors administrators
and assigns forever and I the said Tench Tiglhaman
for myself my heirs executors and administrators
the said negro woman Mary Ann Maxfield unto
the said Dorsey Stewart his Executors administrators
and assigns against me the said Tench Tiglhman
my Executors and administrators and against all
and every other person or persons whatsoever shall
and will warrant and forever defend by these presents
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand
and seal this second day of May eighteen hundred
and fifty one

delivered in the presence of Dennis Griffith

At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit

    State of Maryland Baltimore S. S.

Be it remembered that on this second day of May
1851 before the Subscriber a justice of the peace for said
City appears Tench Tiglhman and acknowledges
the above instrument of writing to be his act and
deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof

On this seventeenth day of May A. D. 1851 before
the Subscriber a justice of the peace in & for the said County
personally appeared Dorsey Stewart the grantee named
in the aforegoing bill of sale and made oath on the
Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration therein
set forth is true & bona fide as set forth sworn before Dennis Griffith
