                At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit
    State of Maryland Anne Arundel County sct.

          Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on
this twenty ninth day of April in the year of our Lord Eighteen
hundred and fifty one before the Subscriber a justice of
the peace of the State of Maryland in and for said County
personally appears William Lomax and doth acknowledge
the said indenture or instrument of writing to be his act
and deed.  In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe
my name on the day and year aforesaid.  J. W. Hunter

      Received of the grantor to the foregoing mortgage
the sum of twenty five cents being the duty chargeable
thereon by law.                              Jos. H. Nicholson Clk
       Recorded the tenth day of May 1851

State of Md Stamp   Know all men by these presents that I William Lyles
(          one           )   of Anne Arundel County and State of Maryland of the
(          Dol           )   one part for & in consideration of the sum of four hundred dollars
current money of Maryland to me in hand paid by Edward
Reynolds Ann G. Reynolds & Leonard Mackall trading under
the name and firm of J W & E. Reynolds in the City of Baltimore
and State aforesaid of the second part at or before the ensealing and
and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged have granted bargained and sold & by these presents
do grant bargain and sell unto the said parties of the second
part one negro boy named Sam about seventeen years of age
Slave for life and now in my possession to have and to hold the
same unto the said parties of the second part their Executors
administrators and assigns forever.  And I do for myself my
heirs executors & administrators covenant and agree to and with
the said parties of the second part to warrant and defend
the sale of the said negro boy Sam unto the said parties of the
second part their Executors administrators and assigns
against all & every person & persons whomsoever.  In witness
whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty
fifth day of April Anno Domini eighteen hundred and fifty one
