the said woman to the said Richard Crandell his executors
administrators and assigns forever.  Provided however and it is
the true intent and meaning of these presents and of the
parties hereto that if the said William Lomax his executors
or administrators shall well and truly pay or cause to be
paid to the said Richard Crandell his executors administrators
and assigns the said instalments of the aforesaid debt
with interest on the same as they respectively become due
then this Indenture and every part thereof that concerns
the said Richard Crandell shall be void and of no effect
otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue in
law  And the said Richard Crandell does hereby covenant
grant promise and agree to and with the said William
Lomax that the said William Lomax his executors and
administrators shall have and hold possession of the said
negro woman and her increase until such time as default
shall be made in payment of said instalments with
the interest thereon.  And this Indenture further
witnesseth that the said William Lomax for divers
good causes and considerations him thereto moving has
released from slavery liberated manumitted and set
free and by these presents doth hereby release from
slavery liberate manumit and set free the said negro
woman Maria who is now aged about twenty four years
and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and
maintenance at the expiration of five years from the
date hereof and if the said Maria should have issue
during the said term of five years the said issue shall
be free as follows the boys as they severally arrive at
the age of eighteen years and the girls as they severally
arrive at the age of sixteen years  And the said William
Lomax doth hereby declare that the said Maria and her
issue are to be free manumitted and discharged from all
manner of servitude from and after the time and at
the ages above mentioned.  Provided that this act of
manumission shall not in any manner affect or prejudice
the lien of the said Richard Crandell hereby created for the
payment of the said sum of four hundred and fifty
dollars with interest as aforesaid.  In Testimony whereof the
said William Lomax has hereunto set his hand and
seal on the day and year first above written.
