State of Maryland, Anne Arundel County to wit:
Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that
on this twelvth day of February Anno Domini,
one thousand, eight hundred and fifty one,
before ^me^ the Subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the
State of Maryland, in and for Anne Arundel County
personally appeared Philip D. Sutton, who is known
to me as the person named and described as, and
professing to be a party to the foregoing bill of sale, and
or instrument of writing and doth acknowledge
the said bill of sale, or instrument of writing to be
his act and deed.  And at the same time, and
place also appeared Virginia ^R^ Sothoron the grantee in
said bill of sale or instrument of writing and
made oath, that the consideration set forth in said
bill of sale, or instrument of writing, is true and
bona-fide as therein set forth

Anne Arundel County, to wit:  I certify that the
grantee this day paid one dollar, being the duty
chargeable by law, in this Instrument of Writing,
the receipt whereof is hereon endorsed, agreeably to
the Act of Assembly of December Session 1846 Chapter 61

Robert T. Hodges
         to
Sally Hodges
Know all men by these presents, that I,
Robert T. Hodges of Anne Arundel County
in the state of Maryland, for, and in consideration
of the sum of one hundred dollars, current
money, to me in hand paid by Sally Hodges of said County
and State, at and before the sealing and delivery of these
presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have
bargained, sold and delivered, and by these presents do bargain,
sell and deliver unto the said Sally Hodges, one negro
boy named Richard Digs (it being the same boy that was
given to me by my Grandmother Anne Jacobs) to have
and to hold the said negro boy in perpetual bondage as
a slave for life, unto the said Selby Hodges, her executors,
administrators and assigns, to her and their only proper use
