Phillips and Son of Fredericksburg Virginia, and is about to be further
indebted to them in certain sum or sums of money, note or notes, or
renewal of notes, duly stamped, to be loaned by them severally, from
time to time, to time, the said Lemuel G. Taylor, on account of said
Steamboat or other purposes - the payment of which moneys, notes,
or renewal of notes and interest, due and to become due, and
payable by him the said Lemuel G. Taylor, to said J. McConky and to, and
Samuel Phillips and Son, he the said Lemuel G. Taylor, is desirous
of securing, by pledging to said J. McConky & Co and Samuel Phillips
and Son the said Steamboat Maryland and appurtenances.  Now
Know ye; that I the said Lemuel G. Taylor, in consideration of the
premises and the further consideration of the sum of one dollar, to
me in hand paid at the time of the perfection of these presents,
by the said James McConky & co, and Samuel Phillips & Son, the
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained, sold,
assigned, transferred and set over, and by these presents do grant, bargain,
sell, assign, transfer and set over unto the said James McConky & co, and
Samuel Phillips & Son, their Executors Administrators and Assigns,
all that the said Steamboat or vessel called the Maryland of Annapolis
together with all and singular, her Masts, Yards, Sails, Rigging, Anchors,
Cables, Boats, Tackle, Apparel and Appurtenances, as she now is, and
is more particularly described in a certificate of Enrolment, granted
her at the port of Annapolis, in the following words,
                                  Enrolment

    " No. Eleven 11, - Enrolment.  In Conformity to an Act of Congress,
of the United States of America, entitled "An Act for enrolling and
licensing ships or vessels, to be employed in the coasting trade and
fisheries, and for regulating the same," Lemuel G. Taylor of Baltimore
City in the State of Maryland having taken or subscribed the oath,
required by the said Act, and having sworn that he is a citizen of
the United States, sole owner of the ship or vessel called the Maryland,
of Annapolis, whereof Lemuel G. Taylor is at present master and as he
hath sworn, is a Citizen of the United States, and that the said ship
or vessel was built in the City of Baltimore in the year
       (seal of the               )   eighteen hundred and nineteen, as appears
       (Collector of the port)   by Enrolment No 14, granted at this port and
       (of Annapolis            )   dated October 1.st 1838, now surrendered up, propety
Thomas Ireland ide changed, and said Enrolment having certified
that the said Ship a Vessel has one deck, and no masts, and that her
length is one hundred fifty five feet, six Inches, her breadth, twenty
seven feet, her depth nine feet, six Inches and that she measures
