Benjamin Watkins
            to
Matilda Watkins
This Indenture made this fifteenth day of March in
the year Eighteen hundred and fifty between Benjamin
Watkins of Anne Arundel County in the State of
Maryland of the one part and Matilda Watkins
wife of John McK Osborn of the same County and State aforesaid of the
other part   Whereas by the act of December session Eighteen hundred
and forty two of the General Assembly of the State of Maryland
married women are entitled to hold slaves by direct purchase provided
the same is not made of their husbands after coverture and whereas
I have this day agreed to and with the said Matilda Watkins
to sell to her my negro woman Nell purchased by me of Samuel
Richardson who purchased her of the Executors of Joseph Evans
late of said County deceased   And Whereas I have received of the said
Matilda Watkins the sum of two hundred dollars the price agreed to
be paid for the Said Nelly   Now This Indenture Witnesseth that
I the said Benjamin Watkins for and in consideration of the above
recited premises and of one dollar lawful money of the United States
to me in hand paid by the said Matilda Watkins the receipt
whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and
Sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the
Said Matilda Watkins his executors administrators and assigns
my negro woman Nelly   To Have and To Hold the said negro
Woman Nelly unto the said Matilda Watkins her Executors
administrators and assigns forever and against every person
claiming any title in the said negro Nelly   I hereby warrant
and forever defend the said Matilda Watkins   In Witness
Whereof I hereto set my name and seal the day and year
first herein written
Signed sealed and delivered         Benj Watkins   (seal)
    in presence of
J. W. Hunter

State of Maryland Anne Arundel    On this fifteenth day of March
1850 personally appeared before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace
of the said State in and for said County Benjamin Watkins the
party grantor in the aforegoing Deed or Instrument of writing and
acknowledged the same to be his act and deed he being known
to me of my own knowledge to be the Identical person named
and described as and professing to be the said Party grantor
          Acknowledged Before      J. W. Hunter
Recorded on the 15th day of March 1850
