State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit   On this fifth day
of March Eighteen hundred and fifty before the subscriber a Justice of
the peace of the State of Maryland in and for said County personally
appeared the above named Stevens Gambrill and Daniel Duvall
parties to the foregoing instrument of writing and acknowledged
the same to be their act and deed and I further certify that I
know of my own knowledge that the said parties so appearing
before me to be the Identical persons named and described as
and professing to be parties to said Instrument of Writing and
I further Certify that the said Daniel Duvall made oath
by me administered that the consideration set forth in said
Instrument of writing is true and Bona fide as therein set forth
    Acknowledged Before      J W Hunter

Anne Arundel County To wit   I certify that Daniel Duvall
this day paid one dollar being the duty chargeable by Law
on this Instrument of writing the receipt whereof is herein endorsed
agreeably to the act of assembly of December session 1846 chapter
61   Given under my hand this 5th day of March 1850

Edward C Williams
            to
John N Stewart
This Indenture made this twentieth day of
February in the year of our Lord one thousand
Eight hundred and fifty between Edward C
Williams of Annapolis City of the State of
Maryland of the one part and John N Stewart of Anne Arundel
County in said State of the other part  Whereas the said Edward
C Williams is Justly and Bona fide indebted to the said John N
Stewart in the sum of three hundred and fifty dollars current money
as by his promissory Note dated on the same day with these presents
will appear payable twelve Months after date with Interest from
the date thereof   And in order to Secure the same is willing to
Execute these presents, Now This Indenture Witnesseth that the
Said Edward C Williams for and in Consideration of the premises
and of the sum of one dollar current money to him in hand paid
by the said John N Stewart at and before the sealing and
delivery of these presents the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged
hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth
grant bargain and sell unto the said John N Stewart his executors
administrators and assigns one negro named "Tom" a Slave
for a term of Years, whose term of service Expires on the
first day of April in the Year Eighteen hundred and Sixty
