388 Anne Arundel County to wit On this twenty first day of December in the year one thousand eight hundred and forty nine before the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace of the state of Maryland in and for Anne arundel County aforesaid personally appears Thomas Heath and acknowledges the within instrument of writing to be his act and deed And at the same time and place also appeared before me the grantee in the said Bill of Sale named and made oath that the consideration set forth in the said Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth Acknowledged before A. Johnson Recorded on the 28th day of January 1850 Del.d to grantee Feb 26th 1850 Cost $.62½
Armiger did by a deed duly executed and recorded in Liber J H N No 1 folio (Dollar) 257 being one of the personal record Books of Anne Arundel County dated the Seventh day of March in the year eighteen hundred and forty eight purchase a negro man named Lewis Parker the husband of the said Willie as a slave for life at her request. And whereas the said Willie in order to secure and indemnify the said Armiger against any loss by said purchase did by deed aforesaid convey unto the said Armiger the following goods to wit four horses yoke of oxen three sheep three cows sixteen hogs one ox cart chain &c plows harness hoes and other implements of husbandry and household furniture on the farm of John Thomas with proviso that if the said Willie should pay to the said Armiger the sum of six hundred dollars with interest thereon from the date of the deed aforesaid on or before the first day of January in the year eighteen hundred and fifty two then to be void. And whereas by the deed aforesaid the said Armiger did covenant with the said Willie that he would upon receipt of said sum of six hundred dollars and interest as aforesaid deliver transfer and sell unto the said Willie the aforesaid negro man Lewis as a slave for life And whereas part of said sum of six hundred dollars has been paid unto the said Armiger by the said Willie in the way and manner aforesaid on said deed and the ballance fully satisfied by the sale and delivery of the said goods &c hereinbefore described by these presents made in consideration whereof he the said Armiger doth release convey and deliver unto the said Willie all his right title interest and claim in and to the said negro man Lewis as a slave for life. Now this Indenture witnesseth that the said Willie for and in consideration of the premises and of the sum of five dollars current money to her in hand paid by the said Armiger at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained sold and delivered and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell |
